COGNITIVE & CAREGIVERS BOOT CAMP

Coastline's Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Program is an educational program designed to provide structured cognitive retraining for adults who have sustained a brain injury due to traumatic or non-traumatic injuries.

The ABI Program emphasizes cognitive retraining, socialization, and career development to promote individual responsibility and independence. Students learn strategies to compensate for deficits in:

  • Verbal skills
  • Figural skills
  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Critical Thinking
  • Organization

The program emphasizes teaching students to apply these skills to practical, real-life home and work environments.

Cognitive Boot Camp

Cognitive Boot Camp is an online educational program designed to provide structured cognitive retraining for brain injury survivors.

This unique online program emphasizes evaluation of cognitive skills, development of strategy building to compensate for cognitive difficulties, psychosocial adjustment, community integration and more.

A common thread throughout the program is the utilization of a Personal Data Assistant (PDA). Students are encouraged to use PDAs as a prosthetic memory device to help with such things as scheduling and homework for each of the classes in Cognitive Boot Camp.

Cognitive Boot Camp Online Classes:

  • Strategies for Using PDAs
  • Cognitive Strategy Building
  • A Family's Guide to Brain Injury
  • Community Re-Integration

Care Givers Boot Camp

The online Caregivers Boot Camp provides caretakers and significant others with information, support, resources, and strategies for coping with changes experienced after a family member sustains a brain injury.

The courses in this boot camp contain content similar to the courses offered in Cognitive Boot Camp. The focus, however, is from the perspective of the caregiver or family member and their unique set of needs as they endeavor to help and support the brain injury survivor.

The Caregivers Boot Camp curriculum is a pre-cursor to a multi-disciplinary online vocational certificate program being designed to meet the future standards for Section 2 of the Heroes at Home Act-- Program on Training and Certification of Family Caregiver Personal Care Attendants for Veterans and Members of the Armed Forces with Traumatic Brain Injury.
