English
and Math Placement
Coastline’s Military
Program provides students enrolled in our military outreach programs the
opportunity to take the Coastline Math and English Placement Tests at their
respective military installations. Coastline also accepts
ASSET exam scores
for placement into our Math courses.
ASSET tests may be
taken at your local Navy College Office.
Placement tests
are recommended for students who plan to pursue a degree from Coastline, and
they are required prior to enrollment in an English or Math class. It
is recommended that students schedule their placement testing prior to the
end of their first semester of enrollment and no later than eight (8) weeks
prior to enrolling in a Math or English course.
The procedures for
requesting a Coastline test are as follows:
-
Student and Proctor
complete the
Math and English Proctor Agreement Form
and fax or mail to the
Assessment Center location indicated on
the form.
-
Upon receipt of the
proctor form, a
Coastline Assessment Center
representative shall contact the proctor via e-mail (unless otherwise
requested by the proctor on the Proctor Form), w/ copy to the student, to
confirm that the proctor is in agreement to administer the exam and that a
secure environment will be provided.
-
If on-line assessment is
requested, the instructions for administering the exam shall be sent to
the proctor via e-mail. Upon completion of the English exam, the
student will receive immediate results. The normal turn around for
math exam results is 24-72 hours.
-
If paper/pencil
assessment is requested, the exam and instructions to administer the exam
shall be mailed to the proctor, along with a self-addressed stamped
envelope for return of the completed exam. Please note that students
may experience delays in receiving their results due to possible post
office delays.
-
If you would like to
contact an Assessment Center representative, you may do so via e-mail at
militaryplacement@coastline.edu or telephone at (714) 241-6367.
Requirements
and Limitations
You may not
repeat either the English or Math Placement Test if they were taken
within the past year (365 days) at any of the colleges in the Coast
Community College District (i.e., at Coastline, Golden West, or Orange
Coast Colleges). Test results are valid for up to 2 years only.
Calculators
are not allowed for the Math placement test but you will be allowed
scratch paper. No notes, scratch paper or dictionaries are to be used
for the English placement test. Please call (714) 241-6367 for information
